Privacy Policy for Book Tracker: Reading Tracker

**Effective Date: October 28, 2026**

Book Tracker (the "Application") is a private reading tracker for iPhone and iPad. It helps you log the books you read, your reading progress and sessions, ratings, notes, quotes, and reading goals. It is provided by Manas Protim Das (the "Service Provider") as a freemium service, intended for use "AS IS".

This privacy policy applies to Book Tracker distributed through the Apple App Store.

Use of this application is governed by Apple's Standard EULA, available here: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

---

1. Information Collection and Use

Book Tracker does not collect, store, or transmit personal data to servers operated by the Service Provider. The Service Provider does not run any servers for the Application.

All content you create in the Application — including your library, book details, reading progress, reading sessions, ratings, notes, quotes, goals, cover photos, reminders, and preferences — is stored only on your device using Apple's local storage technology.

- No Account Required: Book Tracker does not require registration, login, or personally identifiable information to function.
- No Analytics or Tracking: We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs. We do not collect your device identifier, usage patterns, or other telemetry, and we do not track you across apps or websites.
- No Cloud Syncing by the Service Provider: Your reading data is not uploaded to any server by the Service Provider.
- No Cookies:The Application does not use cookies or similar tracking technologies.

 2. Your Reading Data and On-Device Processing

Book Tracker works on your device. Logging books, tracking progress and sessions, the session timer, statistics, streaks, goals, notes and quotes, share cards, and exports are all handled locally within the Application.

- On-Device Only: Your library, notes, quotes, and reading history are never uploaded to, processed by, or shared with any server operated by the Service Provider.
- Statistics: Reading statistics, streaks, and goal progress are calculated on your device.
- Widgets: Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets read a summary of your reading data (such as your current book and daily progress) from a storage area shared only between the Application and its widgets on your device. This data does not leave your device.

 3. Book Search and Book Information (Internet Access)

To help you add books, Book Tracker can look up book information (such as title, author, description, page count, and cover image) from public book catalogues. This is the only feature that uses the internet.

- What Is Sent: When you search for a book, scan a barcode, or tap "Look Up", the Application sends only your search text or the book's ISBN to the catalogue service. Covers for books in your library may also be downloaded from these services.
- Services Used: [Open Library](https://openlibrary.org) (operated by the Internet Archive) and [Google Books](https://books.google.com) (operated by Google).
- What Is Not Sent: Your library, reading progress, ratings, notes, quotes, or any other personal data are never sent to these services.
- Your IP Address: As with any internet request, these services can see your device's IP address when the Application contacts them. Their handling of this information is governed by their own privacy policies: [Internet Archive Privacy Policy](https://archive.org/about/terms.php) and [Google Privacy Policy](https://policies.google.com/privacy). The Service Provider does not receive or store this information.
- Optional: You can always add books manually without any internet connection.

 4. Camera (Barcode and Cover Scanning)

Book Tracker can use your device camera to scan book barcodes, read printed ISBNs, and photograph book covers.

- Purpose: Camera access is used only while you are scanning a book (or a stack of books) or taking a cover photo within the Application.
- On-Device Only: Barcode and text recognition use Apple's on-device frameworks (VisionKit). Camera images are not stored, except a cover photo you choose to keep, which is saved only in your local library. Nothing is transmitted except the ISBN that is looked up as described in Section 3.
- Permission Control: You can grant or revoke Camera access at any time in your device settings under Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → Book Tracker**. You can still add books by typing the ISBN or details manually.

5. Photos

Book Tracker can use a photo as a book cover and can save share cards you create to your photo library.

- System Photo Picker: When you choose a cover image, you select it through Apple's standard photo picker. The Application receives only the specific image you choose and does not request access to, read, or scan your photo library.
- Saving Share Cards (Add-Only Access): If you choose to save a share card to Photos (for example with "Save Image" in the share sheet), iOS asks for permission to *add* images to your photo library. This permission only allows saving; it does not allow the Application to view or read your existing photos.
- Permission Control: You can change this at any time under Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → Book Tracker.

6. Notifications (Reading Reminders)

Book Tracker can send you optional reading reminders.

- Local Only: Reminders are scheduled on your device using Apple's local notification system. No push notification service is used, and no data is sent to the Service Provider.
- Permission Control: Notifications are only requested when you turn on reminders. You can turn them off in the Application or under Settings → Notifications → Book Tracker.

7. Importing, Exporting, and Sharing

- Import: You can import a Goodreads export file or a Book Tracker backup file. You choose the file through Apple's standard file picker, and the Application reads only the file you select. Covers for imported books may be fetched by ISBN as described in Section 3.
- Export and Backup: You can export your data as CSV files, a Goodreads-compatible file, or a JSON backup. These files are created on your device, and you decide where they go.
- Sharing: Sharing share cards, quotes, or exported files is handled through Apple's standard share sheet. The Service Provider does not receive or intercept any shared content. Anything you share is governed by the privacy policy of the app or service you share it with.
- Goodreads: The Application can open the Goodreads website so you can import a file there yourself. The Application does not connect to your Goodreads account.

8. Payments and Premium Features (Book Tracker Pro)

Book Tracker offers optional premium features ("Pro") through an auto-renewing monthly subscription (which may include a free trial) and a one-time lifetime unlock, purchased through Apple's App Store using StoreKit.

- All payment transactions are handled entirely by Apple.
- The Service Provider does not receive your credit card details, billing address, or Apple Account information.
- Purchase and subscription management (including cancellation) is governed by Apple's terms and handled in your Apple Account settings.
- Core features are available without payment. The Application contains no ads and no tracking.

 9. Third-Party Services

The Application does not share, sell, or rent any user data to third parties.

- No third-party SDKs, ad networks, or analytics services are integrated into the Application.
- No data is shared with third-party AI services.
- The only external services involved are:
- Apple's system services (App Store / StoreKit for purchases), governed by Apple's privacy policy.
- Open Library and Google Books, which receive only search text or ISBNs for book lookups, as described in Section 3.

10. Data Retention and Deletion

Since your data is stored locally on your device:

- Retention: Data remains on your device for as long as the Application is installed.
- Deletion: You can delete individual books, notes, and quotes within the Application, erase all data from the Application's Settings, or remove all application data by uninstalling the app.
- Backups: Your data may be included in your own device backups (for example iCloud or computer backups) if you have enabled them. These backups are controlled by you and Apple, not by the Service Provider.

No data remains on the Service Provider's servers because none is transmitted.

11. Your Rights

You have full control over the data stored on your device:

- Access: All of your data is available within the Application.
- Deletion: You may delete data in-app or uninstall the Application to remove it.
- Portability: You can export your library, notes, and quotes at any time as CSV, a Goodreads-compatible file, or a full JSON backup.

Since the Service Provider does not collect data on a server, there is no server-side data to request, correct, or delete.

12. Children's Privacy

Book Tracker does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from anyone, including children under the age of 13.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to the Service Provider, please contact us at the email below so appropriate action can be taken.

13. Security

- The Application relies on Apple's platform security and sandboxing to help protect your data.
- The Application does not make network connections to transmit your personal data. The only network requests are book lookups (search text or ISBN) and cover image downloads, sent over encrypted HTTPS connections.
- Barcode and text recognition occur on-device.

14. Changes to This Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time — for example, if optional iCloud sync is added in a future version. Any changes will be reflected by updating this page with a new effective date. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Continued use of the Application after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
